Prior to the arrival of the new Abbess, the nuns at the convent lived relatively peaceful, monastic lives. Their days were filled with ascetic practice, song, worship and contemplative meditation.
When the new Abbess arrived, all of this began to change; subtly at first and then drastically. Notes made by local observers suggest that the nuns became withdrawn in July and by early September were like ‘ghosts mourning their own loss’. We are unsure of the exact year, but believe it is 1881 (8+8+1+1÷3=6/6/6).
The artwork in some of these images began to replace the beautiful orthodox paintings which had adorned the monastery walls for centuries. We believe that these replacements come from Estonia and stem from another convent which suffered a similar downfall in the same year.
Our research team is presently looking for information on the identity of the Abbess and to hopefully piece together a biography in the coming weeks. We will keep you posted on all major developments.
Enjoy your week.
