Welcome to the Victorian Underground Project

This is going to be the last puppet collection for a short while. We are presently sitting on top of a pile of new collections which we are hoping to put out over the next couple of weeks so you might see a slight increase in our output.

We would like to say thank you to everyone who has stopped by and liked, shared or commented on our Instagram page and also over at our blog where we try our best to provide additional information where necessary. Also thanks to those artists who have asked us to collaborate. We will work to find the time ASAP.

One thing we haven’t discussed is the puppets which resemble the Siblings of Saint Rupert, of which there are many. Our research suggests that Alfred not only had knowledge of this cult but also didn’t hide the fact.

These puppets seem to appear in his shows as symbols of evil. However, they are only ever referred to as ‘those nasty druids’.

What we also haven’t explored so far is Alfred’s death. In his final year, aged 51, he began to show signs of madness and suicidal ideation, becoming more and more distressed and incoherent. Things became so bad that he began to throw away his possessions, believing them to be possessed.

Eventually he could no longer leave his home and began to board up his windows and doors, refusing entry to all who visited except for his distraught sister. Despite her tears and pleading, he couldn’t overcome this sudden torment.

Surrounded by his puppets, he set the house on fire and sadly passed. The next day, something incredible appeared in the town square where he practiced his puppetry all those years ago. Photograph #1 was on display with a wooden sign of an arrow pointing upwards while photograph #10 was right next to it with an arrow pointing downwards.

These displays disappeared over time, but legend has it that even as recently as a few weeks ago, there have been recorded sightings all over the northeast of England. If you ever happen to come across them then be sure to let us know.
