Some light relief for you all.
Aunt Fanny from Huddersfield was a renowned baker and maker of disgusting looking but delicious tasting cakes, pastries and confectionery. Legend has it that she was also something of a perfectionist as we can see in photograph #6. Her tantrums were ‘thunderous’ according to one employee’s diary.
Our team has tried to recreate her exact recipes and designs to the letter. We can confirm that they taste exceptionally good and while you’re munching, you begin to forget that you’re eating a buttery croissant that resembles a maggot or you’re sucking on a lollipop which contains a butterfly preserved in sugar.
Aunt Fanny was one of many people raised in dirt poor living conditions. She had a desperate but loving mother and an abusive alcoholic father. She also had 3 brothers and 3 sisters; all living in a single room between getting turfed out onto the street.
The mother and siblings tried to make ends meet by stitching sacks and work clothes for the local textiles industry. However, the father would often steal the money and disappear for days on end. Meanwhile the mother and older children had to resort to sleepless nights working while the younger children went out begging and stealing.
Oftentimes there was no food and the hungry children regularly resorted to desperate measures. Aunt Fanny would eat insects while her mother told her to shut her eyes and think of something nice to eat.
This situation clearly had a warping effect on Aunt Fanny. When she was just thirteen years old, she ran away from home and ended up working for a baker called Mr Spalding where she began to learn her craft.
Many years later, when she finally managed to open her own business, patrons were initially disgusted when entering Aunt Fanny’s bakery. However, when finally convinced that the insect feast was just edible decoration, they discovered one of the best bakeries ever to have operated in the north of England.
Aunt Fanny made a lot of money and became something of a local celebrity, helping down and out children and their families. She also financially supported all of her siblings and parents. It took a while to reconcile with her father, but after he gave up the pop and sorted out his act, the whole family was reunited under one roof with their own bedrooms.
Many thanks for reading.
